GFOA-PA West Region Member Meeting
Date: Wednesday, April 24, 2024
Time: 12 - 2PM; Registration begins at 11:30AM
Location: South Fayette Township Municipal Center, 100 Township Drive, South Fayette PA 15017
Cost: Members - $10, Non-Members - $25, Free Virtual Option Available
Event Topic: Act 59 and Its Impacts
Act 59 of 2020 was signed into law on July 14, 2020 to provide for municipal police officers who require mental health evaluations under three conditions: where an officer requests an evaluation, where a Chief of Police refers an officer, or when an officer uses lethal force. The law also requires mandatory training for all officers. While this law supports our first responders, the costs of the evaluations, lost time, and training are not covered by state funding. Additionally, the Act creates many unsolved questions and ‘grey areas’ that can be problematic for even the most experienced municipal officials. This session will help you understand:
- How to approach a potential Act 59 claim
- The potential costs associated with an Act 59 claim
In addition, lunch will be provided and ample time for networking with other local municipal professionals.
